Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur is celebrating Peace and Harmony Festival 2013 at the main campus of the University in collaboration with Bhitai Social Watch and Advocacy (BSWA) and Inter University Consortium for the promotion of Social Sciences IUCPP on December 31st 2013. In this connection an interuniversity Consortium Speech Contest was held at auditorium hall of the University on December 23, 2013 under the theme of “ Significance of Tolerance in Plural Society: Our Traditions and the need of Time.” This beautiful event was presided over by Dr. Yousuf Khushk Chairman Dept: of Urdu and Focal person of (IUCPP) SALU Khairpur. Whereas, the guests of honour were Dr. Imdad Sahito Director Students’ Affairs SALU and Khadim Mirani Focal person of BSWA. A good number of students were present in the hall to support their fellow participants and this enthusiastic crowd kept this beautiful show of talent, living and worth-watching. The speech contest was in three languages viz positions. The Panel pf Judges in this contest was comprised of Madam Zahida Muree, Dept. of Sindhi, Mr. Tariq bin Umer, Dept. of Urdu and Mr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khokhar, Dept. of English. The total number of speakers from various departments of university who participated in this contest was 26. The heterogeneous participants belonged to various classes and grades, fresh being the students of BS part I and the seniors from Masters Final Year.
The spirit and talent of the students was appreciable and praiseworthy. The speech duration was set for 4 minutes and paper reading was strictly prohibited. The candidates seemed well prepared and their confidence level and presentation style might have caused judges to take extra care while compiling the final results and winners. It was a marvelous occasion for students were talking about peace, tolerance and harmony quoting examples from history, world religions and beliefs in general and Islam in particular. The smart students supported their arguments with fine quotations from Quran, Ahadith and verses from Sufi poets of Indo-Pakistan like Kabir, Bulley Shah, Latif and Sachal Sarmast etc.
At the end of the day following students made it their day by winning top positions and leaving others behind them.

Dr. Yousuf Khushk, Chairman Dept. of Urdu in his presidential speech congratulated the winning candidates who will participate in the second round of this contest and to be attended by eight Universities of Pakistan. He advocated the practice of this teaching of tolerance and harmony in the practical life too. At the end of session a group photo of winners along with the guests and judges was taken. The smiling winners left the hall with the promise to perform well in the second round.
